You’re removing your makeup at the end of the day, but is your skin really clean? I bet you’d be surprised at just how much makeup, dirt, oil, and impurities are still in your skin after you cleanse – especially if you aren’t cleansing properly. Did you know that makeup removing wipes don’t actually cleanse your skin? If you find yourself getting inexplicable breakouts, or maybe your complexion has started to look a little dull, here are my top tips to give your skin a deep clean.
First up, prior to your cleanser, swipe on some micellar water with a cotton pad to remove your face makeup. When your cleanser is working to both remove makeup and cleanse, it will struggle to do either. I think of this as sweeping before you mop. Sweeping gets rid of all the debris so that your mop can clean the actual floors.
Next up, apply your cleanser with a cleansing brush. A Sonic Care cleansing brush will remove four times more dirt, oil, and impurities from your skin than washing by hand. Not to mention, if you didn’t wash your hands before washing your face, any bacteria that was on your hands has now been transferred to your face. You wouldn’t believe how much makeup comes off my cleansing brush, even AFTER using the micellar water prior. This just goes to show how much is still left behind on my skin when it looks clean at first glance.
Third, and I only recommend this occasionally if you’re already using a micellar water and a cleansing brush, is to double cleanse. Doing this every day might be overkill, and could dry out your skin, but if you’ve been sitting in front of a bonfire, you’re really sweaty or it’s a particularly humid day, or maybe you’ve not been feeling yourself and went a few days without properly taking care of your skin, go ahead and rinse and repeat.
